Ocean-run squid are wild-caught in the Monterey Bay. Squid-fishing is a sustainable practice and has been a part of Monterey Bay’s history for over a century. California squid have the Best Choice rating for sustainability because Fishermen target the mature spawners, ideally catching them after they spawn, but before they would have died naturally. This allows the squid population to maintain healthy levels and support a thriving fishery.
