Please note that same day delivery is subject to availability and extra delivery charges.
HOW DO YOU KEEP THE SEAFOOD COLD FOR DELIVERY?
When we pick it up from the dock, we immediately put it into ice in marine coolers to keep it cold. We also follow strict FDA temperature monitoring guidelines to ensure that the temperature of the seafood does not exceed 40 degrees F during transport. Your seafood will be packed in ice and thermal packaging before it is delivered in a temperature-controlled vehicle. If you will not be home when we deliver your package, you can put a cooler beside your door. When we see the cooler, we will put your package inside for extra insulation until you get home.
WHAT IF I’M NOT HOME WHEN MY SEAFOOD ARRIVES?
It is best if you choose a delivery day that you will be home to receive your package. That way, you can transfer your seafood directly to your refrigerator or freezer to keep it fresh. Your seafood will come packed in ice and thermal packaging, so it will be OK on your doorstep for up to 3 hours. If you will not be home at least 3 hours after delivery day, you can put a cooler outside your front door to help keep your seafood cold for a longer period of time. If you cannot do this, then we recommend you choose a different day to receive your order.
WHERE DOES THE SEAFOOD COME FROM?
We go to the harbor in San Francisco to pick up the freshest catch from local fishermen. Sometimes we will also get seafood from Half Moon Bay and the Berkeley Marina, depending on season and availability. The fishermen/women catch fish in the Pacific Ocean as far south as San Diego and as far North as Alaska, then they’ll bring it to the harbor for us to pick up. Most of the seafood we supply is locally caught off the coast of California. We also support local aquaculture farms along the Pacific West Coast because they provide us with high quality, healthy shellfish that is grown in a way that leaves no carbon footprint and preserves the ocean.
WHAT IS AQUACULTURE?
Aquaculture is the controlled process of cultivating aquatic organisms, also known as fish farming. In our case, we get shellfish (oysters, clams, mussels) from local aquaculture farms along the Pacific West Coast. Farmed seafood is actually a necessary way to help keep our oceans healthy and producing fish for generations to come. None of our shellfish have dyes, preservatives, or added pesticides/chemicals. They are grown in nearly pristine bays along the Pacific Northwest, with the closest one being in Tomales Bay, Marin County.
WHAT IF I WANT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT ON YOUR WEBSITE?
The products listed on our website are seasonal and change often based on many factors (weather, availability, catch methods). We aim to bring you the best of what is in season and what is sustainably caught. However, we welcome your suggestions! If you have a craving for a certain type of seafood and would like to see it on our website, please fill out our Contact form and let us know. We will do our very best to make it happen.
HOW LONG WILL MY SEAFOOD STAY GOOD FOR?
Depending on the type of seafood you ordered, it will stay fresh for 2-3 days as long as it is refrigerated at a temperature between 38-40 degrees F. If you ordered certain shellfish (like oysters, mussels, clams) then they will be live when they arrive. This means you will need to take extra care to maintain optimal freshness after we deliver it. Read our Handling Instructions for more details about proper storage and handling.
